Dave did Dollywood, now DJ Robo Santa does Bollywood!

We thought that Bollywood's infusion of romance, energy, and colour would give Queerbash a good kick in the pants. And who doesn't love awesome choreography - you all remember this fine 60's treasure from the start of Ghost World, right?

A lot of the songs in Bollywood movies are not actually sung by the actors, they are performed by professionals known as "playback singers". For example, take a listen to "Dum Maro Dum". The lead female here is Zeenat Aman but the singer is the venerable Asha Bhosle (who has so far recorded over 12000 songs!):

The name of this song translates to something like "take another toke" and comes from the movie "Hare Rama Hare Krishna", a morality tale advising against the hippie lifestyle. The singer Asha Bhosle has recently collaborated with Kronos Quartet on a Bollywood-inspired album called "You've Stolen My Heart". She was paid tribute by Cornershop with their 1997 single "Brimful of Asha"

Bollywood also inspired M.I.A. with on her track "Jimmy", which was lifted from the song "Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja" from the 1982 film "Disco Dancer" (itself inspired by the French disco track "T'es OK" by the band "Ottawan").

The festival has been around for five years and it is jammed packed with Vancouver troupes and international starlets.

We just wanted to express our love and admiration for Sherry Vine and Joey Arias! Last night was such delight and full of two of the most talented gender illustionists Vancouver has ever seen!

Club 560 and The House of Venus (thx Cotton), we thank you for bringing these splendid performers to our city. Dave was gagging over meeting Joey and Brandon was up all night watching Youtube videos and reading about these lovely gals. Really inspiring work.

We recommend doing some research on these fine gals and understand how Drag can really be an art form.
